I'm planning on writing a blog post called "If I remade Showdown" when I have the time. It would basically cover some of the armor switches and other changes that I would make if I was making a Showdown mod.

In preparation for that, I am figuring out which Miis I am going to pick as bosses, since that's probably going to be the main change to each Showdown stage. I've tried not to pick these Miis based on how much I like them, but rather on these criteria:

  • In general, the skill level increases with each boss, but I've mixed them up a little just to make it more interesting. For the most part, normal stage bosses are non-PRO and reverse stage bosses are PRO.
  • I've also taken into consideration the Mii's status (both in Showdown and overall). For example, Jackie is a difficult PRO in swordplay, yet she never gets black armor. Therefore, I've decided to make her a top boss to compensate for that. (Obviously, some of these Miis are already bosses, but I've moved them around a bit.)
  • Finally, some Miis I've picked just because I think they would/do look good in Black Armor.

I've also assigned some traits to them (i.e. block while destabilized, which armor, etc.)

Now you might notice that some Miis like Akira and Kentaro have a very poor status in Showdown, yet I didn't give them boss status. Or Miis like Midori and Pierre, who are PROs at swordplay yet never get black armor. This is because I am planning to swap them out for other non-boss Black Armored Miis when I write up the full project.

Please let me know in the comments what you think about these choices for bosses!

Bosses for blog post.png
  1. Ian – I've always liked him as a boss; I think it fits him perfectly. (I can't remember who, but someone on this wiki said he looks like he's about to commit murder, which I completely agree with, and it fits his role as boss.) Obviously he's the first boss though, since he is pretty bad at swordplay.
    • ARMOR: Bulky
    • MOVESET: Mostly defensive, does not attack often, does not block while destabilized
  2. Hiromasa - Same as above. He looks very intimidating in Black Armor. It's a shame that he's not that great at swordplay.
    • ARMOR: Lanky
    • MOVESET: Mostly defensive, does not attack often, does not block while destabilized
  3. Gabriele – Oh, Gabriele. I used to dislike him, but then HowILoveIt opened up my eyes to him. HowILoveIt describes him as a violent, strict, and aggressive man. Perfect choice for a boss. Again, though, I wish he was better at swordplay.
    • ARMOR: Bulky
    • MOVESET: I feel that it would be fitting to have a "Silke" scenario here – an aggressive Mii out of the blue that catches you off guard, and I feel like he is the perfect choice. Does not block while destabilized, but attacks quite often (in fact, I would give him Silke's moveset from stage 2! Wait – I think that's what he has…?)
  4. Alisha – She just deserves a lot more than what she got, so I'm keeping her as a boss.
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Mostly defensive, does not attack often, does not block while destabilized – and NOT a doubler anymore
  5. Sarah – She looks like the kind of person that is just chill and cool, but you can see the competitive side of her when you look at her in Black Armor, like the kind of sassy "You're going down" attitude (or is that just me?).
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Somewhat aggressive, attacks every now and then, does not block while destabilized, IS a doubler
  6. Theo – aka the fivehead. I'm not a huge fan of him, but I do have to say he looks intimidating in stage 18.
    • ARMOR: Bulky?? (let me know what you think)
    • MOVESET: Somewhat aggressive, attacks every now and then, does not block while destabilized
  7. Tatsuaki – He's mad and out to get you. Granted, he's not amazing at swordplay, but he does deserve a little more than his current showdown stats.
    • ARMOR: Slim?? (again, let me know what you think)
    • MOVESET: Somewhat aggressive, attacks frequently, does not block while destabilized
  8. Hayley – When I was stuck on level 17, half of the time I would have to restart because of her. She seems quite intimidating and I think she would look amazing as a boss.
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Somewhat aggressive, attacks every now and then, does not block while destabilized
  9. Stéphanie – Have you seen her in stage 13? She looks great in Black Armor, and she's skilled at swordplay as well.
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Somewhat aggressive, attacks every now and then, does not block while destabilized
  10. Giovanna – Competitive and mischievous. I first saw her in basketball and knew she had potential. Seeing as she's the last normal boss, I'll give her a bit of a moveset boost. It would be like a little "preview" of the reverse stages.
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, blocks while destabilized
  11. Maria – I feel like she's a bit OP, and I'm probably adding to that by doing this, but she's good at swordplay and would look good as a boss. (Also, then she wouldn't be able to hog Black Armor.)
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, does not block while destabilized
  12. Pablo – He is a PRO and a good challenge in swordplay but only gets one Black Armor appearance. I might as well bump that appearance up to boss.
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Since most of the gold armors on this stage are doublers, I made him a doubler as well. Somewhat aggressive, attacks every now and then, does not block while destabilized, doubler
  13. Yoko – I've always been a huge fan of Yoko. To be fair, it was a little much to make her the boss of stage 19 when she's not even a PRO, but I have a vision for her in this stage. As the boss, she would be the only one in the stage to block while destabilized. (I might rethink this later and boost Misaki as well, but downgrade some gold armors.)
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, blocks while destabilized
  14. Shouta – I would give a lot to see people like him as a boss. I am glad that he got his chance to shine in stage 14.
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, does not block while destabilized
  15. Eva – She's great both overall and in swordplay, so why does she only appear in Black Armor once on stage 10 (with a purple armor moveset)? (A much better and more intimidating boss than Barbara, I might add.)
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, does not block while destabilized
  16. Abe – The second-best Mii, yet he gets the same bad treatment as Eva. Just wow. I'm making him a lot more powerful, and to go along with the gold armors' behavior in this stage, he's a doubler. (Hopefully he's smarter than Shinta and knows what he's doing so we don't end up with all the purple thins waving their swords in mid-air.)
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, does not block while destabilized, doubler
  17. Jackie – A very good challenge in swordplay. I was stuck on her for the longest time. She did get kind of robbed in both Table Tennis and Basketball, so I figured I'll make up for it here. Also, I feel that this is the time to start making bosses actually good (i.e. block while destabilized).
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, blocks while destabilized
  18. Takashi – Again, he's a great challenge but for some reason is only the level 12 boss.
    • ARMOR: Bulky
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, blocks while destabilized
  19. Anna – The vice-champion of swordplay. She has quick reflexes there, so I'll give her quick reflexes here as well.
    • ARMOR: Slim
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, blocks while destabilized
  20. Matt – Well, Matt is just Matt. What can I say. I hate how he does like that wiggly thing while destabilized that makes it literally impossible to hit him, but I guess he's supposed to be the hardest one to defeat. So I'll leave it that way. I personally think that he's a teeny bit overrated (seeing as he is a double-beginner in Tennis and Baseball (ish), but he is the swordplay champion and I will honor that here.)
    • ARMOR: Bulky
    • MOVESET: Aggressive, attacks frequently, blocks while destabilized

If you're still reading this, thank you so much! I know this was a super long post, so I appreciate you sticking with it and reading what I have to say. Let me know in the comments – am I making everything too OP? Did I overuse slim armor? How do you like my choices? Any other suggestions before I write up the real project?
