If you're looking for the Wii Play minigame, go to Table Tennis (Wii Play).
Table Tennis is one of the 12 games available for play in Wii Sports Resort. There are two variations of the game: Match and Return Challenge.
Match[]
All matches involve playing against another player or a computer-generated Mii and trying to make the ball bounce twice on the other side of the table in a first-to-six-points match. To win, the player must have at least six points (or eleven if they chose to play in an 11-point match) and have a two-point lead over the opposing player.

How to Defeat the Champion[]
If you can beat everyone up until the champion, Lucía, you will need to know these tips:
- If Lucía paddles a ball off of the table, check if a small sun appears around the ball when you return it. This is called an ion shot. If you succeed in hitting the table, the next ball Lucía will offer will be very fast, and it will be outlined in red (unless she takes too long to return the ball). If you hit an exceptionally strong shot, there will be a sun around Lucía. Hit the ball quickly again and you will get a red-outlined shot. You will find that if you do not succeed in hitting a red-outlined shot from Lucía, you will somersault as you fall. This shot is very unlikely to be in bounds; however, if you hit the ball fast enough with your paddle, you might be able to recover the ball.
- Make sure to pay attention to her paddle's vertical position: if it is up, she will use backspin and apply curves to a ball. If it is done, she will use topspin to make a ball travel faster.
- Also, make sure to quickly position yourself after predicting her moves, as she will quickly make a shot and will not give you enough time to react, ranging from 2 bounces/out to being stunned, making it difficult for you to recover.
- Make sure to hit quickly, increasing the chances of stunning her. Be careful when dealing with backspin with curve shots, as hitting them quickly can lead to "no bounce".
Your skill level must be 1485 or higher in order to face Lucía, The Champion of Table Tennis. Beating The Champion will grant you a stamp called, "Table Titan"
Scoring[]
If you win a 6-point match, this is the skill formula:
6 - 0 = +150 skill
6 - 1 = +125 skill
6 - 2 = +100 skill
6 - 3 = +75 skill
6 - 4 and deuce wins = +50 skill
If you lose a 6-point match, this is the skill formula:
0 - 6 = -150 skill
1 - 6 = -104 skill
2 - 6 = -66 skill
3 - 6 = -37 skill
4 - 6 and deuce losses = -16 skill
If you win an 11-point match, this is the skill formula:
11 - 0 = +150 skill
11 - 1 = +136 skill
11 - 2 = +122 skill
11 - 3 = +109 skill
11 - 4 = +95 skill
11 - 5 = +81 skill
11 - 6 = +68 skill
11 - 7 = +54 skill
11 - 8 = +40 skill
11 - 9 and deuce wins = +27 skill
If you lose an 11-point match, this is the skill formula:
0 - 11 = -150 skill
1 - 11 = -123 skill
2 - 11 = -100 skill
3 - 11 = -79 skill
4 - 11 = -60 skill
5 - 11 = -44 skill
6 - 11 = -30 skill
7 - 11 = -19 skill
8 - 11 = -11 skill
9 - 11 and deuce losses = -4 skill
Inputs[]
After the player defeats Lucía, they can press and hold (1) when choosing their Mii, then release it at the loading screen. This allows them to use the hotel slipper as their paddle, which a few Miis use before Lucía is beaten, namely Steve, Emma, Ian, and Chika.
Note: Getting a draw with Lucía (if not beaten at least once) does not unlock the ability to use a hotel slipper.
Press and hold (2) when choosing a Mii, then release it at the loading screen. This unlocks an 11-point match.
Note: The ball's speed in the 11-point match is twice as fast as that in a 6-point match.
Spins and Curves[]
A spin is applied to the ball to change the direction it will go depending on the type of spin the player applies. A curve is applied to the ball with the paddle and alters the ball's travel pattern.
Spins[]
The spin of the ball can be altered by changing the angle at which the player hits the ball.
- Backspin: Hold the paddle as flat as possible. A backspin will make the rebound it.
- Topspin: Point the paddle close to the ground. A topspin makes the ball travel much farther, but it will give it a lower bounce.
- Sidespin: Hold the paddle flat, pointing it down. A sidespin makes the ball bounce to the left or right upon landing.
- Middlespin: Hold the paddle on its side. A middlespin will make the ball stop spinning.
- Booster-Topspin: Hold the paddle high, and bring it back. When a booster shot is possible, hit the ball when it's at its bounce peak. A Booster-topspin will make the ball bounce fast and often over the opponent's head, making this a good spin to use.
- Booster-Backspin: Hold the paddle so that the red side is concealed (black if the player is left-handed). When a booster shot is possible, hit the ball almost as soon as it hits the table. A Booster-Backspin will cause the ball to fly short quickly and bounce longer.
- Booster-Middle Spin: Hold the paddle like a normal topspin. When a booster shot is possible, hit the ball in the middle of its bounce going up. A Booster-Middlespin will cause the ball to bounce higher when the opponent hits it, causing another booster shot to be possible.
Curves[]
- Side curve: Side curves can often be created by using backspins.
- Up curve: The up curve or "top curve" will make the ball travel even faster when paired with a topspin. To do this, angle the paddle out slightly while doing a topspin.
After the player defeats the champion, the CPUs will have 6 different playstyles:
- CPUs positioning their paddle at the middle and their power shots are super fast. They never cross their hands, indicating that their first serve is fast.
- CPUs making top spins almost all the time by positioning their paddle at the bottom. They never cross their hands.
- CPUs making back spins almost all the time by positioning their paddle at the top. They always cross their hands, indicating that their first serve is always a backspin.
- CPUs making both top spins and back spins.
- CPUs making top spins and fast shots by positing their paddle at the bottom and middle respectively. When a CPU makes a serve they cross their hands.
- CPUs making random shots by doing top spin, back spin, or middlespins. It is also easier to hit a face than any other styles.
Return Challenge[]
Return Challenge has one or more players attempt to return as many ping-pong balls as possible without missing one or hitting it off the table. The trainer is Greg. One return is equal to one point. Cans will start appearing on the table after 10 points and will give the player three points if the player hits them. The maximum number of points the player can obtain is 999.
Trivia[]
- Some of the toughest opponents such as Helen, Julie, and Akira use backspin for almost every shot.
- The slipper says the word "Hotel".
- If you beat Cole, the beginner, by a score of 6-0, and beat Gwen afterwards by a score of 6-1, you can face every CPU Mii that uses a hotel slipper (assuming you beat every opponent after Gwen by a score of 6-0).
- Like Swordplay, the amount of crowd increases as the player levels up.
- Like Swordplay and Basketball, after the player beats the champion, they will never encounter Saburo or Marisa. In every game after they beat the Champion, opponents are randomized based on internal IDS. It picks from 001 to 098, inclusive. Since Saburo's internal ID is 000 and Marisa's internal ID is 099, they are excluded in the selection range. This is caused by a bug in a code. The player only encounter them before they beat the champion. [1]
- Whenever a ping pong ball hits at the closest edge of a table, it depicts sparks and a yellow circle indicating a critical bounce. This causes a ball to make unpredictable movements, ranging from falling down to the ground (resulting "2 bounces") to bouncing away to the table. High-ranked pros and the champion tend to hit at the closest edge, making it harder to recover.
- The fastest tool-assisted gameplay time is 1 minutes and 13 seconds, if including the versus screen, gameplay, "YOU WIN" text, and skill level progress, held by 20LeeBrian1. [4]
- Upon versing the CPU opponent after beating the Champion, if you are the server, the minimum number of turns to receive a point is 1 turn, which can be achieved by hitting at the closest edge of the table.
- If your opponent is the server, the minimum number of turns to receive a point is 2 turns, which also can be achieved by hitting at the closest edge of the table.
