In Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Sports Club, every user has a Skill Level that is tracked separately for every sport (and even most modes in Resort). A player's level is a numerical indication of how good they are at a sport, and is used to determine which CPU they'll be playing against.

Appearance[]

Wii Sports[]

In Wii Sports, the skill level is an approximate gauge as to how good a player is in each sport, and in sports with computer controlled opponents, this is used to check who the player must face. In Baseball and Boxing, the opponent's skill level is between 50 and 149 points higher than the player. This pattern is broken when the player reaches the champion region (1200 to 1299 in Baseball, 1500 to 1599 in Boxing). After the player reaches 100 points above the minimum points required to get to the champion region, random opponents will be faced.

Wii Sports Resort[]

In Wii Sports Resort, the skill level serves the same purpose, but there is a difference with computer controlled opponents. Now, depending on their placement, their skill level will be in a fixed five-point region. Specific opponents if the player's skill level is between 1 and 14 points below the highest skill level of their region. Also, the champion must be beaten to obtain access to the random opponents.

Wii Sports Club[]

The skill level system here is completely different. There are twenty different "levels", with upgrades being done by obtaining one hundred skill points. It is impossible for the player's skill to drop, but the point bar can go to zero points. Each level has a group of opponents assigned to that level, and they are faced if the player's skill is the same as theirs, one level higher or one level lower. In the PAL version, this system is called "Grade".

Maximum Skill Level[]

In Wii Sports, while there is no hard limit intentionally set by the developers, each sport uses a different method for calculating skill level, which will inevitably result in an asymptote somewhere.

Sport Highest Known Skill Level
Tennis 2399
Baseball 3099
Bowling 2213
Golf 2868
Boxing 3124

In Wii Sports Resort, every mode has a maximum Skill Level of 2500.

In Wii Sports Club, every mode has a maximum Skill of Level ★10. Reaching this will make the bar rainbow coloured. Doing well puts a star where the point change would normally be.

Modes[]

In Wii Sports, Skill Level is only tracked in the main modes for each sport. When playing with two or more human players, Skill Level changes will not occur in Baseball or Boxing, and will not occur in Tennis if any human players are on opposing teams.

In Wii Sports Resort, Skill Level is tracked in every mode except for Power Cruising: VS, Canoeing: VS, Cycling: VS, Air Sports: Island Flyover, and Air Sports: Dogfight. Each mode in every sport keeps track of a different Skill Level. When playing with two or more human players, Skill Level changes will not occur in Swordplay: Duel, Swordplay: Speed Slice, Basketball: Pickup Game, or Table Tennis: Match.

Essentially, any sport/mode where players cannot directly interact with each other allows Skill Level changes in multiplayer.
