Information

Game:

Wii Party U

Type:

3-4 players

Instructions:

"The GamePad player is the goalie and has to stop shots from the rival players. Block the goal three times to win, or the rival players can win by kicking seven shots in."

Penalty Kick Challenge is a 1 vs Rivals Minigame in Wii Party U.

Introduction[]

An NPC Mii in gray, playing as one of the rivals, runs up to a soccer ball and takes a shot at the goal, which an NPC goalie (also wearing gray) attempts to block. Whichever side succeeds is random with every play.

Gameplay[]

The rival players each take turns kicking soccer balls into the goal which the GamePad player, as the goalie, must try to block. The GamePad player wins if they block 3 shots, while the rivals win if they score 7 goals.

Controls[]

  • GamePad: Hold the Wii U GamePad upright, and jolt the GamePad in the direction you want your Mii to jump.
  • Rivals: Hold the Wii Remote horizontally.
    • At the start of your turn, press 2 to run up to the ball.
    • Hold left or right on the D-Pad to aim, then press 2 again to shoot. Holding no direction shoots the ball towards the center.

Trivia[]

  • Chris, Dylan, Frank, and Claudia appear in the instructions of the minigame.
    • Chris plays as the solo player, while the others are the rival players. Dylan can be seen kicking in the instructions, while Frank and Claudia are only seen on the GamePad controls.
  • The four Miis to the goal's sides will clap when the GamePad player blocks a shot, and frown when the rivals score a goal, showing that they are rooting for the GamePad player.
    • Two Miis to the team's left - only visible on the GamePad screen - will do the opposite: clapping for goals, and frowning at blocked shots.
    • The Mii kicking the soccer balls to the team - once again only visible on the GamePad - is the only truly neutral Mii, never emoting regardless of a shot's result.
  • If you look closely, you can notice two flags with a soccer ball symbol far in the distance.
