Speed Challenge
Canoeing is one of 12 games available to play in Wii Sports Resort. It consists of the Speed Challenge and VS modes.
When you play the game, your Wii Remote transforms into a paddle. You have to hold the Wii Remote as if you were canoeing in real life. The Remote is being held vertically with the sensor facing upwards.
Speed Challenge[]
The Speed Challenge is where the player races against time to reach the finishing point. The distance between the start and the finishing point increases whenever the player passes each stage. The time limit also increases for each difficulty level.
Difficulty | Max race distance | Time limit |
---|---|---|
Beginner | 200 yd | 60 seconds (1:00) |
Intermediate | 300 yd | 80 seconds (1:20) |
Expert | 400 yd | 100 seconds (1:40) |
At the end of the sport, when playing in multiplayer, each player will be given a title, which is decided based on what they did during that game. the roles are:
Iron Arms - Ultimate all round rower, powerful and consistent.
Strong Arms - Great rower, did most of the work.
Helmsman - Good steering of the canoe.
Paddle Wheeler - Unknown.
Oarsman - Good technical rower.
Left Turn Master - rowing mainly on the left, steering canoe towards the right.
Evenhanded - Likely a combination of "Left Turn Master" and "Right Turn Master"
Right Turn Master - rowing mainly on the right, steering canoe towards the left.
Heavy Lifter - Oars out of the water more than in the water.
Along for the Ride - Poor rower, not much power, hardly paddled.
Thrasher - No technique or rhythm, random rower.
Splasher - Not rowing deep enough, barely brushed the surface of the water.
Unknown Quantity - Didn't row, not able to access ability.
VS[]

The VS mode is where 2-4 players challenge each other to break the bars as soon as possible. First to 5 points wins.
There are three types of races with a certain amount of hazards (excluding the first one). These races are organized by difficulty, just like in Speed Challenge. Here are three of them:
Beginner[]
- None
Intermediate[]
- Lilypads
- Grass
- Fish (they move around)
Expert[]
- Logs
- Geysers
Practice Mode[]
Practice Mode is a mode you can attempt at any skill level. To do so, press the (-) button when at the starting screen for Canoeing. If you are a beginner you will have a tutorial in this mode. Your goal is to help the Mother Duck find all 10 of her babies wandering over the lake.
Some may experience a certain glitch where one of the ducks is on the dock of a boat close to the Castle.

Trivia[]
- In Island Flyover, Mike is shown as the Extreme Canoeist who is trying to paddle all the way from Wuhu Island to Wedge Island. However, if you take a closer look at the location itself, someone other than Mike might be in the canoe.
- In the American version of the game, distance is measured in yards, while the European version uses meters. Although technically the races in the American version should be shorter (e.g. 100 yards is less than 100 m), the actual distance is the same in both versions.
